To do
700 Japanese Larch
130 lower branches to be sawn per tree
25 trees per row
6 hours per row
91,000 branches to be cut
And, maybe. just maybe, there will be light.

The Pembroke Town Walls Trust was set-up by local people to manage the historic site for the long term benefit of our community. Working in partnership with a wide range of partners and stakeholders the aim is to protect and conserve the archaeology, promote understanding and access, and realise the potential of the historic site to contribute to the social and economic benefit of local communities through local skills development, sustainable tourism development and sense of place. I am working on a new brand strategy for the Trust and will be looking forward to building the brand over the coming months having just completed the identity.

It was worth the wait...

After taking hundreds upon hundreds of video clips over the last 12 months of badgers fighting, foxes scampering chasing duck and moorhen, buzzards taking ducklings, squirrels, wagtails, kingfisher and hedgehog drinking and heron standing and waiting. I have finally found what I was looking for.

LIFE IN THE WOOD

Over the weeks, months and years, I am going to tell you about life in the wood. I will try to describe the crazy ambition I have to manage a woodland that runs alongside the busy A477 near Cosheston in Pembrokeshire.

Our wood is a five-acre block of cramped Japanese larch, wild cherry, ash, oak, alder, hazel, guelder rose, alder buckthorn and elder dominating patches of tall herb, grasses and natural wetland. In spring, it rings to the sound of swallows and redstart; in summer, it is shoulder-high in meadowsweet and willowherb with otter, heron and kingfisher all visiting. Come the winter, there are moorhen and snipe feeding in the wet thickets – if they can outwit the wiley fox.

I hope the material recorded in this blog will be partly inspired by the wildlife living on the edge of a busy road, it’s visitors and my amateur attempts at woodland and wetland management to make it an even better place. Who knows, let see eh?

I will also share some of the stories and restlnessness from my day job in my pursuit of new ideas, fresh approaches and better ways.
